Peerless to create 14,500 job opportunities in five years

Kolkata, Oct 26 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today expressed his strong reservations against the Central policy towards jobless economic growth and said efforts should be made to create huge scope for micro enterprises.

Hailing the efforts of Peerlees General Finance and Investment Company Limited, a leading NBFC in the country with an asset base of over Rs 5,000 crores, the Chief Minister felt that its decision to create 14,500 odd job opportunities for the unemployed youth by 2010 should emulated by all .

Inaugurating the year long Platinum Jubilee(75 years) celebrations of the Group here tonight in presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and several other dignitaries from various fields, the Chief Minister regretted that while the country's GDP was poised to grow by over eight per cent during the current financial year, in terms of employment opportunities it had recorded minus four per cent growth creating a piquent situation in the Indian economy.

" Such job less growth of the national economy does not make any sense," Mr Bhattacherjee observed and called for special efforts to create more jobs at the micro economic level through greater involvement of various Self Help Groups.

Reiterating that the Peerless' efforts to create more employment opportunites for educated youth under its "Hitaishi" programme at the micro level, the Chief Minister also promised all assistance from the state government in realising their dreams.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in his brief speech recalled his close association with the Peerless group for the past four decades and hailed its uncompromising attitude towads the economic uplift of the poor and the downtrodden.

Among others Peerless Chairman D Basu and Managing Director S K Roy spoke on the occasion detailing their diversifying business vision till 2010 when they were planning to invest about Rs 1200 crores in various projects.
