PCP to support freedom fighter
Tirupati, Oct 26 (UNI) Praja Congress Party (PCP) Founder and President N Munichandra today expressed support to Freedom fighter A Hanumantha Rao, who was contesting for Andhra Legislative Council graduate constituency elections.
In a release, he said Mr Rao was the right candidate as he was a true follower of Mahatma Gandhi and 'Andhra Kesari', Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu.
Mr Rao alleged that the rules of the contesting candidates in the ensuing graduates and teachers constituency elections were glaring anomaly, and demanded the Election Commission of India to amend the rules suitably.
In a letter to CEC, the freedom fighter said it was quite surprising that a voter for the graduates constituency must be a graduate, while the contesting candidate need not be a graduate or a teacher and it was sufficient if the candidate's name was found in the general electoral rolls of the legislative assembly.
Outsiders should be barred from contesting. Others, whose names were not found in the electral rolls of graduates or teachers constituency should not be permitted to contest the elections, he demanded.
