Mortal remains of Orissa DIG consigned to flames

Hoshiarpur, Oct 26 (UNI) A tearful adieu was bid to DIG Jaswinder Singh by his family members and thousands of people of village Bodal today.

The DIG was shot dead allegedly by one of his personal security guards in Orissa's Rajagada district on Monday last.

The mortal remains of Jaswinder Singh were consigned to flames with full state honour at the cremation ground of his native village at 1150 hrs. A contingent of ceremonial guards of PAP led by Sub Inspector Gurnam Singh reversed their arms and fired in the air to pay respect to the departed soul.

The deceased DIG's, twin Sons Shubhkarman Singh and Prabhsimran Singh jointly lit the pyre.

Punjab Minister for Technical Education Romesh Chander Dogra and DGP S S Virk attended the funeral on behalf of the state government and Punjab Police respectively. Resident Commissioner Sanjiv Misra and SP CID Vinaytosh Misra represented the Orissa government.

Punjab BJP chief Avinash Rai Khanna, MLAs Des Raj Dhugga and Balbir Singh Miani besides other government officers and thousands of people participated in the funeral.

Earlier, the aforesaid leaders and officers laid wreathes before the body of Jaswinder Singh.

DGP Virk, while expressing grief said all possible help would be given to the family of Jaswinder Singh and he would take up the matter with Punjab Chief Minister to approach his counterparts in Orissa for the CBI inquiry to ascertain the real murderer.

Mr Avinash Rai Khanna also demanded a CBI inquiry into the killing.
