Modi government launches AIDS awareness campaign
Ahmedabad, Oct 26 (UNI) Health Minister Ashok Bhatt today flagged off six raths, which will cover 1,350 villages of the state during a 90-day AIDS awareness campaign, launched in the state, with the support of UNICEF.
Mr Bhatt said the campaign will last till January 26 next year and during the rath yatra many seminars will be held at different cities of the state on AIDS, according to a release issued here.
The minister also said that the awareness campaign through these raths was part of government efforts to increase AIDS awareness among people.
Health Commissioner Dr Amarjit Singh said that spreading information about AIDS was protecting public health. Nearly 35 per cent village women are fully aware about AIDS and the present effort through the rathyatra was a sincere attempt to combat the dreaded disease, he said.
On the occasion Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr Prabhakar and UNICEF's Dr Mathur were present.
