New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri today ordered a probe into reasons for suspension of former MCD executive engineer Naresh Gupta who recently committed suicide at his residence in Adarsh Nagar in North West Delhi.

Responding to concern expressed by members, cutting across party lines, over the issue in a meeting of the MCD House, Mr Suri directed that the detailed report in this regard be presented on the floor of the House at its next meeting.

Expressing concern over the incident, BJP as well as Congress members said it was indicative of the atmosphere of fear prevailing among engineers of the MCD building department.

Speaking on the issue, Leader of the House Jitender Kochar said after being terminated recently on the issue of unauthorised contructions, Gupta was feeling victimised.

''It is sad that even though the MCD has a Vigilance department of its own, every other enquiry is being entrusted to the CBI. If the MCD's vigilance department is not capable of conducting such probes, it should be closed down,''Mr Kochar said.

Mr Vijender Gupta of the BJP said no probe was conducted by the vigilance department of the MCD before terminating Gupta.

''Neither was any chargesheet filed against Gupta, not was there any case of corruption against him in MCD records. Then why was he terminated in such a haste. The commisioner should file a detailed report on this and place it on the floor of the House,''Mr Gupta said.

In his suicide note, Gupta had blamed the Commissioner, the Vigilance department and the CBI for his death.
