Manipur trucks unable to move freely without escorts
Imphal, Oct 26 (UNI) The truck drivers plying on NH 38 have refused to drive unless security is provided to them.
The crisis occurred after the trucks were unable to move freely on the highway due to the activities of All Manipur Died-in-Harness Demand Committee (AMDHDC) and an increase in legal and illegal taxation at Nagaland check posts.
As a result of this, the state had been facing a scarcity of petroleum products and cooking gas in the month of October, sources said. They further added that only a few days ago, all the stranded trucks were brought to Manipur from Asom under heavy escort .
The officials said the state government had failed to provide security every time the trucks travel from Manipur to Asom via Nagaland.
The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union said the trucks were stranded in Imphal areas and could not proceed without security.
The drivers have appealed to the state government to immediately solve the problem and initiate dialogues with the Nagaland government in this regard.
