K'taka Govt's move to link NAAC grades and grant flayed
Mysore, Oct 26 (UNI) The Mysore University Private College Teachers Association today condemned the Karnataka Government's move to stop grant in aid to colleges which obtained a minimum of 'C' grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Speaking to newspersons here, Association President Prof K P Vasudevan said the parametres of NAAC were not in tune with the social realities of the country. By this order, over 2,500 teachers in the State would be affected.
Demanding that the grades should not be tied up with grant in aid as it was a social issue, the Association contended that the grades were awarded on the basis of many other issues like infrastructure and other requirements, to be organised by the management. However, the Government had chosen to penalise the teaching community of the colleges, mostly in rural areas and contributing towards social empowerment, equity and imparting education to rural population.
He said the Association appreciated the intervention of Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti by which the Government had postponed the move by an year.
