Bhopal, Oct 26 (UNI) About 18,000 Panchayat Karmis (workers) in Madhya Pradesh will be benefitted by the group insurance scheme being introduced in all the 23,051 panchayats from April 1 next year.

The eligible age group has been fixed between 18 to 58 years under the scheme. An assistance of Rs one lakh would be given in case of death, Rs 50,000 for permanent disability due to accident and Rs 25,000 for serious disease, official sources said today.

The benefit of the scheme would be provided on the basis of the disability certificate to be given by the District Medical Board, while in case of serious disease the certificate of Chief Medical and Health Officer would be required.

The Panchayat and Rural Development department will deposit the premium amount twice a year with the insurance company, which will implement the scheme throughout the state under one agreement with the government and not with the Panchayat Karmis separately.

The insurance company will give the bank guarantee as equal to one-sixth of the premium amount and it would be used for payment of the claims if the company does not make payment in prescribed time limit.

The claim application by the Panchayat Karmis or next of kin would be routed through the Chief Executive Officer of the Block Panchayat, who will forward it to the insurance company within a week. The claim cases would be disposed of within 30 days and in case of delay, the insurance company will make payment with interest, the sources added.
