Indian Air force adopts five villages in JK
Srinagar, Oct 26: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has adopted five villages badly affected by the October 8, 2005 killer quake in north Kashmir.
Work has already been started in these villages, which will be rebuilt with all the modern facilities, including schools and community centres.
The IAF will build nine schools, community centres and five mini hydel projects in these village.
This announcement was made by Air Officer Commanding Jammu and Kashmir, Air Vice Marshal Anil Chopra, who celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with the affected people at Uroosa, Uri, in north Kashmir yesterday, a defence ministry spokesman said.
He said AVM Anil Chopra visited the earthquake affected villages and also handed over a middle school built by Indian Air Force to locals at Khalsapatti village.
He reiterated the commitments made by the Air Force to build all the five villages with all modern facilities.
The IAF had flown more than 1276 sorties carrying more than 2500 tons of relief materials for distribution among earthquake affected people. More than 500 people have been evacuated to safer places during the operation immediately after the earthquake.
