Golf tournament to commemorate Dr Parmar's birth centenary
Shimla, Oct 26 (UNI) A three-day golf event is being held at the Naldehra Golf Course from October 27 to 29 to commemorate the birth centenary year of Himachal Pradesh's founder, Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar, his grandson said today.
''Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh will inaugurate the tournament on October 27, which would be a two days nine hole Golf Invitational Event in Stable Ford format,'' he said at a press conference here.
Mr Parmar said the tournament has been conceived as an annual event and was being organized by Dr Y S Parmar Memorial Foundation that would work towards the development of the state.
Dr Parmar was a great sportsman and a keen golfer who spent many days on the lush and peaceful grounds of the Naldehra Golf Course, he said, adding that the event would be befitting tribute to his life and work.
He said there would be different categories in the tournament like team, individual men, veteran, ladies, junior and caddie and a winner and runner up for all divisions and the top ten local caddies would be given cash prizes too.
''The event is also aimed at promotion of the Naldehra Golf Course and tourism.'' Golfers from Shimla and Delhi have been invited to take part in the event and the inaugural match would be for the caddies of the village Naldehra, he said.
Mr Parmar said the total prize money for this match would be Rs 25,000 for the first ten winners.
State government's Tourism Department, Naldehra Golf Course, Nalagarh Heritage Hotels, Seagrams, Himalya Waters, Wilson Sports, Maharani of India, DCM, Shriram, Tonino and Apex Sports were sponsoring the event, he added.
