New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Delhi Finance and Planning Minister A K Walia today said efforts of the state excise department have resulted in more seizures of illicit liquor and imported vehicles, as well as increase in number of FIRs registered in the connection.

The number of cases of seizure of illicit liquor had gone up from 394 during mid September to mid October 2005 to 519 in the corresponding period this year. The number of FIRs registered had shown 100 per cent increase from 16 to 32 whereas number of foreign-made vehicles seized had gone up from nine to 13.

The Enforcement Wing of the Excise Department had been striving hard to curb trade of illicit liquor in Delhi, Dr Walia said.

He expressed confidence that the wing would be able to fully overcome the menace of illicit liquor trade which had become a major cause of untimely death among the poor.

Excise department would soon come out with a scheme of rewarding 'outstanding' employees of the wing which would inspire them to ''sharpen their teeth'', he added.
