Lucknow, Oct 26 (UNI) In a major drug haul, the Meerut police today caught two dismissed Punjab Police personnel with Rs one crore worth of smack.

The duo -- former sub-inspector Sukhwant Singh and ex constable Vikram Singh -- were arrested from Bhusa Mandi Tiraha under the Sadar police station area, when they were about to hand over the contraband to a local point man.

The dismissed Punjab cops had brought the contraband -- stashed in a total of 35 pouches -- after the ''deal'' was finalised a few days ago.

The local conduit, identified as Salim, is reportedly absconding.

Police here maintained the duo used to frequent Meerut on a regular basis to hand over consignments. Their area of operation is said to be UP, Haryana and Rajasthan, sources added.

They have been charged under various sections of the NDPS Act.

Police said they were recently dismissed from Amritsar district police.
