Congress alleges irregularities in ration card distribution

Gulbarga, Oct 26 (UNI) AICC member and former Minister Kamaru Islam today alleged that large scale irregularities were witnessed in the distribution of ration cards to below poverty line (BPL) families.

Addressing a press conference here, he claimed that ration cards to thousands of BPL families had been cancelled without assigning any reason. Some BPL families had been issued cards meant for above poverty line families and vice versa.

''Instead of 1.26 lakh ration cards to be distributed as per the survey, only one lakh had been issued in the district,'' he pointed out, demanding a fresh survey to issue ration cards.

Mr Islam warned the Government that the Congress would launch an agitation if the ''faulty'' distribution of ration cards was not rectified soon.

The Congress leader informed that a party convention would be held here on October 29, in which KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge and former Chief Minister N Dharam Singh would participate.
