Hyderabad, Oct 26 (UNI) The Congress today decided to go on a collision course with its former ally Telagnana Rastra Samithi (TRS) by fielding a candidate against TRS Chief and Former Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao for the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat vacated by Mr Rao.

Announcing the candidature of Mr T Jeevan Reddy, PCC President K Keshava Rao told mediapersons AICC President Sonia Gandhi had approved his candidature following his 'impeccable track-record.' Mr Chandrasekhara Rao had recently said the by-election would be a referendum on the formation of separate Telangana state.

The Congress which initially said it would not field a candidate against Mr Rao so long as the TRS remained a partner in the Central Government, later decided to field a candidate when the TRS withdrew support to the UPA Government.

Mr Keshava Rao said with Mr Jeevan Reddy fighting the election, the Congress would win the poll hands down.

Talking to UNI, Mr Jeevan Reddy said he would do his best to win the bypoll.

TDP Legislature Party Deputy Leader T Devender Goud claimed his party would win the by election as both the Congress and the TRS had cheated the Telangana people.

The TDP gaining strength was evident in the recent local body elections, he added UNI JRK GM MSJ DB2110
