BITS Pilani denies media reports on implementation of quota

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) today denied that it had agreed to implement reservation for SC/ST and OBC candidates during a meeting with Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh.

''Certain news channels have put out items which claimed that certain unaided deemed universities, including BITS Pilani have promised to implement reservation... BITS Pilani could not attend the meeting,'' an institute statement said.

''Some of the channels have wrongly reported that we were present at the meeting,'' it added.

According to BITS, merit must be the only criteria for admission to ensure homogenous input into higher education system.

''Provisions have to be made in the schools to give coaching so that candidates of weaker sections can compete with other students,'' it added.
