Bhupathi-Ancic pair enters 2nd round of St Petersburg Open

St Petersburg, Oct 26 (UNI) Mahesh Bhupathi and his Croatian partner Mario Ancic came back from a set down to stun third seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Thomas Johansson 3-6, 6-3, 13-11 to enter the second round of the one million dollar St Petersburg Open here.

Bhupathi and Ancic will now take on the Austrian-South African pair of John Stephens and Wesley Moodie in the indoor event.

The Indo-Croatian pair struggled in the first set and was outplayed by the third seeds, who raced away with the opener 6-3 but Bhupathi and Ancic came back strongly to shock Stephens and Moodie in the second.

The unseeded pair, who won the Beijing Open and the Mumbai Open after coming together, first equalised by taking the second set and later kept their nerves to win the match in the tie-breaker to score a major upset in the tournament.
