Rain toll rises to 14 in TN
Chennai, Oct 25 (UNI) The death toll in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu rose to 14 with the death of two more persons, including a girl, due to electrocution at Mayiladuthurai area in Nagapattinam district last evening.
The victims, Ramya, the girl aged 18 and her brother Vinod, aged 13 died when a live elecric wire accidentally fell on them when they were cutting grass in a field to feed their cattle. The siblings died on the spot, according to police.
The toll rose to 12 yesterday when a man, sleeping in his house, was crushed to death when a portion of the dilapidated wall collapsed on him.
Till yesterday, 11 people were killed in rain-related incidents since the onset of the North East Monsoon. While three people were killed in an incident of wall collapse in Dindigul District, another died in Chennai city in a similar incident.
In Thanjavur, three siblings were drowned while taking bath in the Vennar River near Melattoor Village on October 22. The river was in spate due to incessant rainfall.
After the onset of the monsoon five days ago, four people were killed in Southern districts when they were struck by lightning.
