'K'taka trying to postpone Chamundeswari bypoll'
Mysore, Oct 25: Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah today alleged that the State Government was attempting to postpone the byelection to the Chamundeswari Assembly constituency assigning various reasons.
Addressing newspersons here, he claimed that the Government had dashed off a letter to the Election Commission (EC) to postpone the bypoll. He had also written to the EC last week, detailing the ground situation and stating that the best time to hold the poll would be before December as the harvesting season would start in December and January.
Mr Siddaramaiah complained that the Government was taking up various programmes not mentioned in the budget just to woo the electorate. ''The people of the constituency will not fall for the gimmicks of the Government and they continue to support me.'' Welcoming the induction of Mandya MP M H Ambareesh into the Union Ministry, he thanked party President Sonia Gandhi for providing an opportunity to the Vokkaliga community. This would definitely help in the coming elections, he added.
