Andaman and Nicobar Islands celebrate Id-ul-Fitr

Port Blair, Oct25 (UNI) Id-Ul-Fitr is being celebrated with gaiety and fervour in various parts of the Andaman and Nicobar islands today.

In these tsunami hit archipelago,people of the minority community celebrated the festival by offering 'Namaz' at different mosques scattered in different Islands.

Clad in new dresses and sporting different designs of caps, they offered prayer under the supervisions of clerics at the mosque. Kids were dressed up in attractive dresses.

After offering Namaz, people hugged each other and exchanged best wishes for Id-Ul-Fitr.

Police administration ensured tight security arrangement in and around Port Blair and near mosques to allow smooth passage to devotees.

Earlier confusion prevailed over seeing of moon in these islands when moon could not be seen in Monday night. It was decided by Andaman and Nicobar Hilal Committee to celebrate Id-Ul-Fitr on 25th October, informed Andaman and Nicobar Hilal Committee secretary Modh H Jadwet.
