Punjab govt to extend 'ashirwad scheme' for Muslim families

Malerkotla, Punjab, Oct 24 (UNI) The Punjab government has decided to extend the 'Ashirwad Scheme' for the daughters of the economically poor Muslim families of the state.

This announcement was made by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr in this town, which is the only Muslim dominated area in Punjab. The Chief Minister also offered prayers at the Eidgah here.

Under this scheme, a poor family receives Rs 15,000 for the marriage of a daughter. The Muslim families would also be entitled to this benefit which until now was being extended to the economically poor SC and BC families.

He also announced to set up a medical and nursing college here, as the area was educationally backward. The land for this would be alloted by the Wakf Board.
