PCA invites Dalmiya to watch Champions Trophy matches

Written by: Staff

Mohali, Oct 24 (UNI) The IS Bindra-led Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) today extended a ''cordial'' invitation to former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya to come here and witness the Champions Trophy matches.

''We at PCB have always been nice to Mr Dalmiya,'' asserted the PCA chief but hastened to add, ''I was never shown this courtesy by the Cricket Association of Bengal (headed by Mr Dalmiya).

''Since 1996, we have always extended invitation to Mr Dalmiya to come and watch international matches here but in the same period I was only invited once, that too during BCCI Platinum Jubliee programme at Eden Gardens,'' he added.

Mr Dalmiya's shadow, however, will loom over the PCA precincts.

His reply to the show-cause notice served by BCCI will be taken up at the disciplinary committee meeting, which will be held here on October 29.

''The committee will consider Mr Dalmiya's reply. He has been requested to appear before the committee,'' said BCCI Joint Secretary M P Pandov.

Talking to mediapersons here this evening, Mr Bindra also said that there were no difference between the ICC and BCCI.

''ICC is one large family and in every family there are discussions and debates. ICC is also a democratic body where dissent also has a healthy place,'' he said, giving an impression that the two bodies are moving down the path of reconcilliation.

Just a few days after concurring with BCCI vice president, Lalit Modi's tirade against the world body, Bindra today went soft on the ''East India Company'' issue.

''It was a reaction not an initiative. Sometimes you are provoked to speak back. It happens in every family. In the end, even the East India Company converted into a Commonwealth of Nations. We are an integral part of the ICC and proud to be a member of the committee of nations of ICC,'' said Bindra.

He also made it clear that the hosts would extend a warm welcome to ICC Chairman Percy Sonn and Chief Executive Malcom Speed.
