New Sports complex, academy planned for Rohtak
Yamunanagar, Oct 24 (UNI) A sprawling 100 acre sports complex and academy would be established in Rohtak district while more facilities will be provided at Moti Lal Nehru Sports School, Rai in Sonepat district, Haryana Education and Sports Minister, Phool Chand Mullana said here today.
Mr Mullana, who inaugurated the Haryana State Rural Sports Tournament (Under 16 Girls) at local Tejli Sports Complex today, said that the government had given a substantial increase in the budget to promote sports. The diet allowance of sportspersons had been doubled from Rs 50 to Rs 100 per day and the number of sports nurseries raised to 31 from 20.
Mr Mullana informed that a Rs 2.40 crore indoor hall was being built at Moti Lal Nehru Sports School and rural stadiums were being set up in big villages to give further boost to sports in the state.
The government was striving hard to provide international level facilities in the field of education as well and the proposed Rajiv Gandhi Education City at Kundli and passing of the Private Universities Bill were steps in this direction, the minister said.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director (Sports) Mr Ashok Aggarwal said 1112 rural girls from 20 districts of the state were participating in seven sports events being organised here.
