In-law beaten up after pregnant lady's death

Khammam, Andhra Pradesh Oct 24 (UNI) In a display of public anger, father-in-law of a pregnant woman was today beaten by neighbours after her death under suspicious circumstances in Illendu town.

Police said unconvinced by the version of the woman's husband, Saleem, that she had committed suicide by hanging, neighbours alleged that the 19-year-old Purnima had been harassed by the inlaws and was beaten to death by her father-in-law Babu Miyan. Her husband Saleem surrendered to the police.

Police who also took Miyan into custody, maintained that the cause of her death could be known only after post-mortem.

Saleem, who was working for a multimedia company in Hyderabad gained intimacy with Purnima belonging to Gajuvaka in Visakhapatnam district after a chance call to her mobile phone and married her on the Valentine's day, police added.
