2500 pigs shot dead by TN, Nellore shooters: Chairman
Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 24 (UNI) About 2500 stray pigs were shot dead by shooters from Tamil Nadu and Nellore in the last ten days here to maintain hygiene in the town, according to Municipality Chairman Shik Silar Dada.
Talking to UNI, he said the pigs have been creating nuisance on the roads, causing not only traffic problem but also posing a threat to hygiene in the town.
Mr Dada said the municipal health authorities have discovered an ingeneous 'weapon' to kill mosquitoes, bitex pesticide balls mixed with crude oil and rice bran. The balls are kept in open drains, the main breeding places of mosquitoes.
He advised the cow and cattle owners not to leave the animals on the roads. Otherwise, they would be picked up as stray cattle and shifted to Nallamala forest area in Kurnool District, he added.
