Rear Admiral Anurag Thapliyal takes over as ENC Chief of Staff

Visakhapatnam, Oct 23 (UNI) Rear Admiral Anurag Gopalan Thapliyal today took over as Chief of Staff of the Eastern Naval Command from Rear Admiral Anil Chopra.

According to a Navy release here, during his 29 years of service, Rear Admiral Thapliyal had taken up various posts, both operational and staff. He had commanded the ASW patrol vessel ''INS Ajay'', corvette ''INS Khukri'', the destroyer ''INS Mysore'' and state-of the art stealth frigate ''INS Tabar''.

He was an alumnus of the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island USA and DSSC, Wellington and Naval Academy and was commissioned into the Indian navy in 1977. He is also a specialist in navigation and aircraft direction.

Meanwhile Admiral Anil Chopra, the outgoing Chief of Staff will be proceeding to New Delhi on transfer as Assistant Controller Carrier Projects at the Naval Headquarters.
