Manipal ties up with Univ of Minnisota for bone marrow transplant
Bangalore, Oct 23 (UNI) Manipal Education and Medical Group has entered into a partnership with the University of Minnesota Physicians (UMP) to launch Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT), one of the globally renowned programme of the US varsity in India.
Under the agreement, a BMT Centre would be set up at the Manipal Hospital here.
The University of Minnesota had in 1968 carried out the world's first BMT for an infant with an immune deficiency syndrome. They conducted on an average 400 BMTs, Dr Frank B Cerra, Senior Vice-President for Health Sciences at the University of Minnesota, told mediapersons here today.
Mr R Basil, Managing Director and CEO of Manipal Hospital, said the hospital would spend around Rs three crore over the next 18 months to create necessary infrastructure for taking up BMT on a large scale. The hospital would have at least 50 beds for it. MORE UNI VK GD SB BS1755
