Chennai, Oct 23 (UNI) Setting aside minor bickerings, the seven-party Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) headed by the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, has issued a joint statement appealing to the party cadre to work unitedly for the forthcoming indirect elections for the posts of mayor, municipal chairman and panchayat presidents.

Admitting to minor differences which led to contests among the constituents themselves, the DPA said it had happened due to paucity of time for negotations.

''Let bygones be bygones. Let's hope whatever happens, happens for good in future,'' the joint statement signed by the DPA leaders said.

Keeping this in mind, the DPA urged its members to consider the massive victory in the local body elections as a victory for the achievements of the four-month-old DMK regime and continue to work with unity.

The statement was signed by DMK President M Karunanidhi, TNCC President M Krishnaswami, PMK President G K Mani, CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan, CPI State Secretary D Pandian, Dalit Panthers of India MLA K Selvam and IUML President Khader Moideen.

The leaders said after the victory in the Assembly bypolls to Madurai Central and local bodies, elections for the post of Mayor and chairpersons/presidents of the local bodies had been announced.

The constituents had agreed upon the contestants for these posts in each local body, they said and urged the members to unitedly work for the victory of the alliance candidates in the indirect elections.

The parties should not consider the number of seats they had won, but work unitedly for all members of the allies.
