South Asia e-govt summit to kick off on Oct 26
New Delhi, Oct 22: More than 200 experts from India and abroad will take part in a three-day international meet on e-Governance 'e-GovWorld 2006' in the capital beginning October 26.
Representatives from South Asia, Europe, Africa and the US will carry discussions on e-government cooperation mechanisms, pro-poor e-governance strategies and mobile governance in developing nations from South Asia region.
The meet aims to create a shared vision for technology and management strategies by working across boundaries to champion organisational and technological innovation, promote common interests, and support the core missions of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP).
''As more and more countries in Asia have begun charting and implementing their national e-Governance plans, there is need to cooperate with other nations and replicate good projects for success thus necessitating the need for institutional mechanisms for cooperation among countries,'' Mr Vikas Kanungo, convenor of the summit said.
The summit being organised by the Society for Promotion of e-Governance is being co-hosted by IBM, UNDP-APDIP, Danish Technological Institute and Tetra Information Services.
The event is supported by the Department of Information Technology, Government of India, NIC Government of India and the World Bank.
Prominent experts like World Bank Chief Economic Advisor Shekhar Shah, Chief Information Commissioner, Government of India, Wajahat Habibullah and UN resident coordinator, India and Mary Ann Fisher from IBM USA Maxine Olson have confirmed their participation in the summit.
Besides, Information Secretaries of various states including Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal, Uttranchal, West Bengal, Orissa, Rajasthan, Andhra Pardesh and Uttar Pradesh will take part in the secretaries conclave to discuss e-governance in various states.
