Sahgal Studd edges out Jindal to lift Bhopal-Pataudi Polo Trophy

New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) Sahgal Stud lifted the Deutsche Bank Bhopal-Pataudi Polo Cup edging out a gritty Jindal Steel&Power by a slender margin of seven goals to six here today.

In a final attended by Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, his wife Sharmila Tagore and actor-son Saif Ali Khan, superb stillwork and good horsemanship were on display and the summit clash lived up to its billing.

Simran Shergill opened the account for Jindal but Dhruvpal Godara equalised before Simran struck again in the first chukker.

Sahgal Stud dominated the next two chukkers, scoring five goals through Godara while Samir Suhag slammed one for Jindal as the scoreline read 6-3 in the former's favour.

Jindal, however, showed tremendous resilience and scored three goals through Samir, Abhimanyu Pathak and Simran to draw parity.

In the sudden death, Godara converted a penalty to score the winner and help his side lift the title.

Gaurav Sahgal was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the eight-goal tournament.
