Arunachal to communitise primary schools
Itanagar, Oct 21: The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to go for communitisation of all primary schools for effective functioning and improving the education scenario of the state.
A village education committee (VEC) would be constituted in each village, who would monitor the functioning of the schools, and report the activities to the government, who in turn would decide the future course of action, state Water Resources Minister said in a press conference.
''The model was said to be doing well in neighbouring Nagaland and could be emulated by the state for overall development of the prevailing poor education scenario in the state'', he informed.
Explaining that the experimental process was aimed towards 'communitisation of school education' for more efficient management of internal school affairs and inculcating sense of discipline and responsibilities among the students and teachers, the minister informed that the funds would continue to be provided by the government while the VECs would have major say in the internal management of the schools.
''The arrangement is aimed towards bringing sense of responsibility among the teaching community, particularly the local tribal teachers, who stay away from their place of posting,'' he added.
He further informed that the state government had already directed the concerned department officials to finalise the probable names of the schools to be brought under the new policy.
In order to bring more efficiency among the teachers, Mr Dabi announced that the teachers, henceforth, would be provided compulsory in-service trainings at various District Information Educational Training (DIET) centres of the state for which necessary directives had been issued to the concerned authorities.
