PDP leader escapes unhurt in JK, PSO wounded
Srinagar, Oct 20: A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader escaped unhurt but his security guard was wounded when their vehicle came under heavy fire by suspected militants in Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district last evening, official sources said today.
They said PDP's Sopore Block President Haji Mohammad Abdullah, driving a Maruti Zen, was on way to Arampora from Chankipora in Sopore area after 'Iftar' time (breaking of fast during Ramzan) at around 1830 hrs yesterday when suspected militants opened fire on the vehicle.
As his Personal Security Officer (PSO) Riyaz Ahmed got down from the car to retaliate, the PDP leader sped away and took shelter in the Sopore Police station, the sources added.
They said the PSO suffered bullet wounds in the gunfight.
The sources said the suspected militants later escaped with the service weapon of the PSO.
He was later rushed to a hospital here where his condition was stated to be critical.
