PCPIA bandh cripples life
Guwahati, Oct 20 (UNI) Life was crippled following the Peoples Committee for Peace Initiative in Asom (PCPIA)-sponsored ten-hour Asom bandh in the Brahmaputra valley today even as the hills district, Barak valley and a large part of Bodo areas were unaffected.
The PCPIA called for the bandh demanding halt of ongoing Army operation and resumption of peace process with the militant group ULFA.
The public transport was off the road today but private transport was maintaing a skeleton service.
Almost all the long-distance buses did not ply but railway and air traffic had not been affected.
The passengers were having a harried time as they were hardly getting any mode of conveyance after going out of the station as well as airport.
Government offices functioned normally but private offices and banks remained closed.
Markets had also remained closed badly affecting pre-Diwali shopping.
No untoward incident had been reported from anywhere in the state so far.
