Tripura to provide water supply to all villages
Agartala, Oct 19 (UNI) The Tripura government has envisaged an action plan to provide clean and safe drinking water to all villages within three years.
Rural Development Department and Public Health Engineers jointly have taken up this plan.
Official sources said the government had constituted a separate state and district level task force to create new water resources to meet the growing demand of water supply. ''A review meeting was held in this regard last week at the state secretariat under the supervision of Rural Development Minister Jitendra Chaudhury. He urged the officials to complete all pending work within the time frame,'' said the sources.
All the four District Magistrates had been instructed to take up all necessary efforts for the progress of the work as per the plan.
The Union Ministry of Rural Development had already released Rs.
80 lakhs to the state as the first instalment of funds against additional allocation of Rs. 160 lakhs under the centrally sponsored Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) during the current financial year.
The funds are to be utilised for execution of schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools in the state under ARWSP.
