Show combining reality TV with melodrama of soap premieres Nov 3

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) Even as the television scene witnesses surfeit of reality shows taking viewers on a roller coaster ride of emotions and daily soaps giving a 'voyeuristic peek' into lives of 'close knit' families, a show combining the two most popular genres is to premiere next month.

A combination of reality TV and unscripted drama will be soon seen on TV in the form of a new show 'Big Boss', which premieres on Sony TV next month.

The show, to be aired on the channel from November 3 Mondays to Thursdays at 2200 hrs and on Friday at 2100 hrs, will chart the day-to-day lives of 13 celebrities living under one roof for full three months under stringent house rules and no access to the outside world.

With no means of communication or entertainment (no phone, no television, no pen and paper, no internet, no books) and totally cut off from the outside world, they will have only each other and the Big Boss to interact with.

An Indian adaptation of the International format show 'Big Brother', 'Big Boss', produced in India by Endemol India, will have the 13 celebrities plotting, conniving, laughing, crying to survive the 'Big Boss'.

Each week, two celebrities will be put in the hot seat by other inmates of the big boss house, one of which will be voted out in the episode.

Taking viewers through the journey of the celebrities and their lives in the 'Big Boss' house will be actor Arshad Warsi, who is the anchor of the show, providing a peek into lives of the celebrities.

Confined within the four walls with nothing but basic necessities, having to do all the mundane chores themselves with no help from maids or assistants, these celebrities will be on camera 24 X 7 with personal microphones recording their every word. Then, there is confession time during which each inmate will reveal his/her true feelings to the Big boss in the Diary room.

''Big Boss is a unique offering that combines the power of reality with the magical drama of soap,'' executive VP and business head of Sony Albert Almieda said at a press meet in the capital to promote the show.

''The show will be A potboiler of emotions, drama, relationships.

It will have the 13 celebrities plotting, conniving, laughing, crying to survive the 'Big Boss','' Chief Creative Director of Sony Sandiip Sikchand said.

For Arshad, who has in recent times, enthralled the viewers with his unique brand of comedy in films like 'Salaam Namaste', , 'Hulchul', 'Maine Pyar kyun Kiya' and, more recently, 'Anthony Kaun Hai' and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', 'Big Boss' is his first tryst with the small screen.

Speaking at the press meet, Arshad said he was eagerly looking forward to his role as the 'Sutradhar' in 'Big Boss'.
