Gyanendra misses deadline to clear his stand
Kathmandu, Oct 19 (UNI) The high level Probe Commission, set up to look into King Gyanendra's alleged role in suppression of democracy and misuse of state coffers during his monarchy, has said the King missed the deadline given to him for explaining his stand.
The King was supposed to respond to the Commission yesterday.
''We had given him a week to reply. We waited for a week. We will wait no more. Now, we will draw up our conclusions on the basis of facts, laws and our conscience,'' The Kathmandu Post quoted member of the Commission Harihar Birahi as saying.
This was the first time that the Nepal's King has been questioned by a Commission about his role in suppressing the people's movement that forced the King to restore Parliament and give up his autocratic rule.
The Parliament adopted a proclamation making the King completely powerless and disconnecting his link to the Army and made some important changes in the state affairs.
