Eight policemen suspended for dereliction of duty
Chitradurga, Karnataka, Oct 19 (UNI) Eight policemen, including two Reserve Police Assistant Sub-Inspectors, were today placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.
According to district police sources, when nine undertrials were being escorted back to Chitradurga after being produced in a court in Bangalore, a rival gang had opened fire on them, killing one person and injuring a few others near Javagondanahalli on NH-4, 45 km from here, on the night of October 16 when the escort party had stopped for dinner. Two undertrials had even escaped in the melee.
A departmental inquiry was also ordered against the suspended policemen, attached to the district Armed Reserve Police, the sources added.
