Bengal outplay Arunachal Pradesh, TN beat MP by solitary goal
Chennai, Oct 19 (UNI) West Bengal, runners up last year, outplayed Arunachal Pradesh 6-0 to be off to a rousing start in the league phase of the 29th Sub-Junior national football championship for Mir Iqbal Hussain trophy here today.
In another Group B match, host Tamil Nadu, who had qualified for the main competition along with Karnataka from the South Zone, also began their campaign with a win, defeating Madhya Pradesh by a solitary goal, a minute before half time. Forward A Reegan found the net off a through pass from left back Aravind.
Bengal began their onslaught with a goal five minutes into the match by Jewel Raja. Ajay Mullick (8th), Ananda Paul (29th), Mithun Sha(35th), Ajay Mullick(53rd) and N G Beirona(71st) were the other scorers for the team.
In the Tamil Nadu -Madhya Pradesh match, both the teams missed a few straight chances in the second session. Reegan himself saw one of his shots hitting the cross piece.
