Arunachal govt to set up board for bamboo development
Itanagar, Oct 19 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang has announced to set up Arunachal Bamboo Development Agency (ABDA) to establish a road map for the development of the bamboo sector in the state.
This was decided at a high-level meeting held here yesterday, official sources said.
The Agency would access and regulate the regime for bamboo, including felling and its transportation in the state, besides overseeing incentive regime for value added products, he said.
Initiating a discussion, Mr Apang said during his recent visit to Sarli and Koloriang in Kurung Kumey district, he found that 80 per cent of greenery in the area was due to bamboo plantation.
He said harvesting of pulp units in these areas would bring employment and economically uplift their conditions. Unemployed youths and school dropouts will engage themselves in development activities, the Chief Minister said, adding that such initiative would address economic imbalances and poverty in the districts of East Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri and Papum Pare.
