AP market yards to be modernised with NABARD funds: Minister
Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 19 (UNI) Thirty seven market yards in Andhra Pradesh would be modernised with NABARD funds to the tune of Rs 237 crore, according to State Marketing Minister B Sathyanarayana here today.
As part of the modernisation, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, during his recent visit to Chittoor had laid the foundation stone for one of the yards there, he said.
The marketyard would have 70 shops for selling jaggery, 37 for mangoes and 20 more small shops for jaggery.
Besides providing roads, drainages and rest houses for farmers, he said the market yards would also consist of a bank, a post office and an administrative office.
Mr Sathyanarayana said 11 more market yards would be modernised in Chittoor with central funds, including six for mangoes and five for tamatoes, which were grown in plenty in the district.
The state government would monitor the implementation of support price announced by the Centre for different crops, he said.
To stablise the price of tamatoes due to excess production, the state government has decided to bear the transport charges if the farmers send their production to other states where they could get a remunerative rate, he added.
