Dr Reddy asks officials to protect interests of Kolleru oustees
Hyderabad, Oct 18 (UNI) Even as he expressed happiness over the development of Kolleru Lake, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy asked the officials to ensure the not even a single poor person whose livelihood depended on the water resource was affected.
An official press release tonight said Dr Reddy said this while sanctioning over Rs 15 crore for rehabilitation of the people living near the lake as sought by the West Godvari and Krishna District Collectors.
Dr Reddy also asked them to make efforts to get alternative land sites for the affected or prepare a special rehabilitation package which would be submitted to him.
The Chief Minister was informed by the officials that the Central Empowered Committee was highly appreciative of the Kolleru Lake Project and lauded Dr Reddy for the 'gigantic achievement' in restoring the glory of the historic water resource.
He was also informed about 1000 migratory birds had already arrived at the lake.
