Delhi police hands over nabbed UNLF cadres
Shillong, Oct 18: Three Manipur-based United National Liberation Front (UNLF) militants arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi were brought to Shillong last night.
The trio, identified as self-styled Colonels Jayant Kumar, Ghanshyan Kumar Singh and Shyam Kumar, were said to be facilitators and handed over to Meghalaya police by Delhi police yesterday.
Police seized a pen drive and compact disc containing sensitive information about the deployment of the security forces in the north-eastern states from their possession.
''They were the ones who escaped from police dragnet,'' Shillong Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang told UNI here today.
Mr Kharkrang also said the arrested ultras were involved in several unlawful activities in state, adding that the modus-operandi of the UNLF in Shillong would be known during the course of the interrogation.
On September 27, Meghalaya's Special Operation Team nabbed a group of four UNLF militants said to be members of its finance wing while they were boarding a vehicle in front of the Urban Development Complex in Shillong towards the Indo-Bangla border.
Various SIM cards of Bangladesh Grameen Mobile Company and incriminating documents and Rs 21 lakhs were recovered from their possession.
The four arrested ultras identified as Manoj Singh, Prasanjit Singh, Somen Singh and Tomba Singh confessed that the UNLF's finance wing was functioning from Shillong for many years.
