Commission agent arrested for duping farmer of Rs 12 lakh
Kaithal, Oct 18 (UNI) Police have arrested a person for duping a farmer of Rs 12 lakh on the pretext of sending his son to Canada.
A local court today remanded the accused in police custody for two days.
Senior Superintendent of Police Navdeep Singh Virk said that Karnail Singh, of Kakheri village, had lodged a complaint with police that he used to sell his crops to commission agent Jai Shanker Trading Company Cheeka.
The firm owed him Rs nine lakh on account of sale proceeds of his crop. As he wanted to purchase some agricultural land and demanded his money from the firm, two partners of this firm, Sham Lal Agarwal and Tony persuaded him to send his son Kuldip to Canada. They told him that as the total expenses would be around Rs 12 lakh he should pay them Rs three lakh more in addition to Rs nine lakh lying with them.
They also took his son's passport and other documents. After about 15 days, Karnail was informed that the passport of his son was lost and he would have to arrange a duplicate passport. They took Karnail to Delhi at times but later recanted.
Ultimately Karnail lodged a complaint with the police. The police has arrested Sham Lal Agarwal under sections 406, 420,506 and 120-IPC and efforts were on to nab Tony who was still at large, the SSP added.
