Marykom leads 13-member contingent to Venus Box Cup in Denmark

New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) Two-time world champion MC Marykom leads a 13-member contingent of women boxers to the Danish town of Vejle for the Venus Box Cup Invitational to be held from October 19 to 22.

Chief coach Anoop Singh was confident of a good show by the Indian pugilists and exuded confidence of reaping a rich harvest there.

''I believe all my girls are capable of bringing back a medal, and they have always lived up to our expectations,,'' he said on the eve of the departure of the team. The Dronacharya awardee coach said he wanted to use this chance as a final run up for the World Women Boxing Championship to be held here from November 17 to 24.

Also part of the team are two-time Asian gold medalist L Sarita Devi and Kalpana Choudhury, both of whom brought back a bronze each in the last edition of the World Championships in Moscow.

More than 130 boxers from 18 countries will be taking part in what is the biggest women boxing tournament in Denmark.

Anoop Singh will be assisted by Chandra Lal from Kerala.
