Indian govt likely to open University in Damman, Saudi Arabia
Dubai, Oct 17 (UNI) Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said the Indian government was mulling over the idea of opening of an Indian university in Damman, Saudi Arabia following a request by the expatriate community.
The minister who is on a visit to the kingdom, told this while addressing a gathering of the Indian community at an Iftar, adding that it will enable students from the three Indian schools in the Kingdom to enrol for higher studies.
''Discussion is on-going regarding the wish of parents that a university be established here in the Kingdom,'' Saudi Gazette quoted Mr Ahamed as saying.
''Our graduates of secondary schools will no longer leave this country and pursue their higher studies right here,'' he told the Indian expatriates.
He said Saudi Minister of Education Muhammad Ahmad Al-Rasheed was given an invitation to visit India to discuss the proposal.
The leaders of Indian community in the Eastern Province said an exclusive university for Indian students will encourage more Indian professionals to work in the Kingdom.
