HC dismisses bail plea of key accused in Sabarimala tantri case
Kochi, Oct 17 (UNI) The Kerala high court today dismissed the bail application of Bachu Rahman, a key accused in the Sabarimala tantri attack case.
Justice J M James dismissed the bail application after Director General of Prosecution P G Thamby strongly opposed it on the grounds that the accused was an influential man with alleged connections with the underworld.
Rahman's release at this juncture would adversely affect the investigation as some other accused were still to be nabbed, he added.
Rahman's counsel, on the other hand, contended that there was no need for further detention of the accused as all the ornaments alleged to have been stolen from the tantri had already been recovered and the investigation was almost over.
Bachu Rahman, who had been absconding for more than two months, had surrendered before the police on October three following a high court directive. He is presently remanded into judicial custody till October 26.
