Govt to enact Special Act for Christian minority property

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, Oct 17 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh government would soon enact a Special legislation to protect property belonging to Christian minorities in the state, Deputy Chairman of the House committee, M Mahidhar Reddy said today.

The committee, headed by Mr Reddy, conducted a special meeting with Christian religious heads, representatives of various Christian missionaries and minority institutions here at the District Collectorate.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Reddy said the committee would receive suggestions and advices from various Christian missionaries and religious organisations to prepare the Special Act.

The committee members would coordinate all the information gathered during their tour and recommended the government to enact a comprehensive Act to protect Christian minorities property, he added.

He said the government after a long debate in Assembly, appointed the committee with the approval of all parties.

He said the deliberations on this matter had already concluded and the committee submitted its interim report to the government in May.

Mr Reddy said the committee would submit its final and comprehensive report to the government by the next session of Asssembly.

He asked the police administration to file cases immediately against the culprits, who either encroached or illegally alienated the Christian minority property. He suggestd that the revenue, police and registration departments should coordinate to protect the minority Christian property, whereas the WAKF Boards Act would protect the WAKF property.

However, there was no Act to deal with or protect the Christian minority property in the state. In view of this, the government decided to enact the Act, he added.

The Deputy Chairman had appreciated that in West Godavari district, the Christian minority property alienated illegally.

He asked the officials to prepare a comprehensive report on the Christian minorities property in west Godavari.
