Centre approves model driving training school in Nagaland

New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) The Centre has decided to set up a Model Driving Training School at Dimapur in Nagaland at a cost of Rs 5.06 crore for upgrading the skills of motorists and truck drivers.

The proposal has been sanctioned by Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu under the ''Setting up of Model Training Institute on Driving and Research'' scheme, which was launched in the Tenth Five-Year Plan.

Under this Scheme, central assistance is provided to the state governments and NGOs for capital investment for setting up such institutes.

The Model Driving Training School in Nagaland is eleventh in the series.

Earlier, the assistance was given for the setting up of such Institutes in Asom, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa.

Mr Baalu said 70 per cent of the cost (Rs 3.54 crore) for setting up the institute at Dimapur would be borne by the Centre. He also ordered the release of Rs 1,06,20,000 as first instalment during the current fiscal.

The remaining amount would be released on the basis of assessment, made by the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), Pune of the progress of construction of the Driving Training School.
