BJP sends raajmah, chana to PM, Sonia as Diwali gift

Chandigarh, Oct 17 (UNI) Punjab BJP today sent Raajmah and Kala Channa each to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi as a ''protest gift'' on the occasion of Diwali.

Party's youth wing also organised a special Diwali gift mela here today, exhibiting gift-wrapped pulses instead of usual sweets in protest against the unprecedented hike in the prices of essential commodities.

''These commodities today signify not a daily middle class dietary component but a luxury commodity, that's precisely why we have them on a Diwali Gift shop counter. The prices of these essential commodities have spiraled to an unprecedented new high. It's high time that we should include such products in our gift list this Diwali'', remarked Vineet Joshi, the youth wing leader.

''We want to convey to the decision makers that common man's agony and disgust by steady price hike can simply not be brushed under the carpet. If UPA leadership has to enjoy its Diwali Gifts then it will be at common man's cost'', remarked Joshi.

Party leaders squarely blamed UPA regime for its failure to put a halt to the spiraling price tags of pulses and Raajmah which form the backbone of middle class dietary component. ''The prices of Raajma and Dals have risen to at least 25 per cent in the last 10 days alone.

''Punjab BJP laments the callous and indifferent approach of Union Government to address this vital issue which is pinching a common man today'', added Joshi.
