AP Govt to take cue from TN on quota for Muslims: YSR
Hyderabad, Oct 17 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government is examining the 'Tamil Nadu experience' to provide five per cent reservation for Muslims in educational institutions and government jobs, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said tonight ''With the Supreme Court clearing the decks for 69 per cent quota in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, my government will examine how best we can go ahead with legal steps to provide reservation for Muslims,'' he told the members of the community who had gathered in large numbers for the 'Iftar' hosted in the holy month of Ramadan.
The Tamil Nadu Reservation Act providing for 69 per cent quota in educational institutions and employment was enacted and included in the IX Schedule of the Constituion taking it away from the purview of a judicial review.
Dr Reddy said his government will overcome all hurdles and fight politically and legally to ensure five per cent reservation for Muslims.
