All party leaders in KMC condemn police officer's conduct

Kolhapur, Oct 17 (UNI) Cutting across party lines, political leaders in the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) have condemned the ''ill-treatment'' meted to Opposition leader in the civic body, Mr Uday Salokhe, by additional superintendent of police Shahaji Umap.

A meeting was called by the KMC today to condemn Mr Umap who allegedly ill-treated Mr Salokhe during a fire mishap in the city on Sunday. The meeting was presided by mayor Sai Kharade.

Speakers at the meet condemned Mr Umap and city traffic police inspector Barkat Mujawar for behaving arrogantly with media persons and citizens during the fire mishap. The meet unanimously demanded immediate transfer of both the officers.

Later a delegation met district superintendent of police Sukhwinder Singh and submitted a memorandum.

Among those who attended today's meet were BJP leader Subhash Vora, Congress city chief Pralhad Chavan, NCP city chief R K Powar, Shiv Sena district chief Rambhau Chavan, former mayors Dinkarrao Patil and Mahadevrao Adgule.

During the fire mishap yesterday, Mr Salokhe had climbed atop a KMC fire engine to appeal to the people not to interfere in the fire-fighting work. However, he was allegedly pulled down after being held by his shirt collar by Mr Umap.
